Dr Wal Van Aswegen (B.Ch.D) joined The Dental Group in March 2009. Wal qualified as a Dentist in 1979 at Stellenbosch University, South Africa. Achieving the award for the ‘Best Student’ in Prosthodontics. Following this, he completed a Postgraduate Business Management Diploma attaining two Distinctions. He also has a Diploma in Implant Dentistry, again achieving a Distinction. He ran his own practice in South Africa for a number of years, before moving over to England in 1998.
He enjoys all aspects of dentistry however he is passionate about Prosthodontics, Aesthetic Dentistry and Oral Surgery. Wal has over 40 years of experience. His calm and relaxing demeanour helps patients feel at ease, taking time to ensure appointments and procedures are as comfortable as possible. He has seen how implants can do wonders for a patient’s self confidence, quite literally putting the smile back on their face. His surgical skills were honed under the mentorship of a renouned Maxillo Facial and Oral surgeon over 18 years of weekly theatre sessions. Wal says the most rewarding part of his job is helping people to attain oral health and rehabilitation.
Other than dentistry, he has a keen interest in walking, cycling, reading, woodworking and DIY. He is a Christian and passionate about sharing his faith.
